California
California is a land of contrasts. You can find the highest mountain (Mount Whitney 4,418 metres) only some miles away from the lowest point on the western hemisphere in Death Valley (86 metres below sea level). There the hottest temperature in the USA (56,7°C) was recorder. But it's only hot in the South of California. The North of this state is cool, the middle has got a mild climate (San Francisco). There are lots of National Parks in this state like Yosemite or Redwood Forest. The largest living tree you can find in Sequoia National Park (General Sherman 86 m tall). The oldest living thing, a pine in Inyo National Forest, is over 4,600 years old.
In California you can find the world's most fertile valley (cotton, sugar beets, barley, wheat, rice, fruit, grapes, vegetables). The biggest problems of California are water and the air pollution in the big cities. In 1906 there was a big earthquake in San Francisco. Most of the city was destroyed. The last big eathquake was in 1989. Lots of people are afraid of another big one today. It is only a question of time.

A wide variety of volunteers have registered as translators with Translations for Progress. Some are professional translators interested in contributing to a good cause, while others are language students with little to no experience in translation. Different volunteers have different capabilities, and we hope that this site will eventually offer plentiful volunteer opportunities ranging from basic translation to more advanced, challenging texts. For those of you with a bit less experience, we have put together a list of pointers to serve as a guide on how to provide the best possible translations for the organization you’re volunteering for.
1. Always translate into your native language unless you are near native or bilingual in the second language. Even then, bear in mind that most professionals translate only into their native language.
2. If you do decide to translate into a non-native language, we strongly suggest finding a native speaker to check your work over before you submit it.
3. If you are unsure of the meaning of a word or phrase, always either check the meaning in a dictionary, with a native speaker, or with the organization that requested the translation.
4. Please don’t attempt to translate texts of a technical nature unless you are familiar with the material or willing to put in the (sometimes considerable) time necessary to research the topic.

THE DONKEY ATTITUDE
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey .He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up
As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon,
Everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!
MORAL:
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

يک بار شش سالم که بود تو کتابى به اسم قصههاى واقعى -که دربارهى جنگل بِکر نوشته شده بود- تصوير محشرى ديدم از يک مار بوآ که داشت حيوانى را مىبلعيد. آن تصوير يک چنين چيزى بود:

اين را که خواندم، راجع به چيزهايى که تو جنگل اتفاق مىافتد کلى فکر کردم و دست آخر توانستم با يک مداد رنگى اولين نقاشيم را از کار درآرم. يعنى نقاشى شمارهى يکم را که اين جورى بود:
شاهکارم را نشان بزرگتر ها دادم و پرسيدم از ديدنش ترس تان بر مىدارد؟
جوابم دادند: -چرا کلاه بايد آدم را بترساند؟
نقاشى من کلاه نبود، يک مار بوآ بود که داشت يک فيل را هضم مىکرد. آن وقت براى فهم بزرگترها برداشتم توى شکم بوآ را کشيدم. آخر هميشه بايد به آنها توضيحات داد. نقاشى دومم اين جورى بود:
بزرگترها بم گفتند کشيدن مار بوآى باز يا بسته را بگذارم کنار و عوضش حواسم را بيشتر جمع جغرافى و تاريخ و حساب و دستور زبان کنم. و اين جورى شد که تو شش سالگى دور کار ظريف نقاشى را قلم گرفتم. از اين که نقاشى شمارهى يک و نقاشى شمارهى دو ام يخ شان نگرفت دلسرد شده بودم. بزرگترها اگر به خودشان باشد هيچ وقت نمىتوانند از چيزى سر درآرند. براى بچهها هم خسته کننده است که همين جور مدام هر چيزى را به آنها توضيح بدهند.

How To Learn English!
Here are some tips which may help you to master the English Language!
Speak without Fear
The biggest problem most people face in learning a new language is their own fear. They worry that they won’t say things correctly or that they will look stupid so they don’t talk at all. Don’t do this. The fastest way to learn anything is to do it – again and again until you get it right. Like anything, learning English requires practice. Don’t let a little fear stop you from getting what you want.
Use all of your Resources
Even if you study English at a language school it doesn’t mean you can’t learn outside of class. Using as many different sources, methods and tools as possible, will allow you to learn faster. There are many different ways you can improve your English, so don’t limit yourself to only one or two. The internet is a fantastic resource for virtually anything, but for the language learner it's perfect.
