ترجمه و بلعيدن آثار متفکران غرب و نيز نينديشيدن، توليد نکردن و کشف نکردن راز و
رمزهاي جامعه خود هستيم.اگر اين ترجمه ها باعث تلنگر زدن به خلاقيت و نوآوري ما
نشود آيا اين خوراک هاي فکري آماده جسارت انديشيدن و تاليف و ترويج را از ما

Why is translation into the mother tongue more successful than into a second language?
It is commonly believed that translators are better at translating into their native language than into a second language. The underlying reason for this assumption is that translators have a more profound linguistic and cultural background of their mother tongue than of a second language which they have to learn in order to be well-versed translators. By the same token, the translator who translates into his or her native language has a more natural and practical knowledge of the various linguistic elements of his or her native language, such as semantics, syntax, morphology and lexicology than the translator who translates into a foreign language. In addition, translation into the first language enables translators to render cultural elements such as proverbs, idioms, metaphors, collocations, swear words and others into proper equivalents in their mother tongue because such translators are born and bred in the culture into which they translate these culture-bound aspects. In fact, the translators' first language is naturally acquired in a culture and environment where the first language is naturally acquired and practiced. On the other hand, their second language is, for the most part, learned, rather than acquired, later on in the course of their life. As a result, the linguistic and cultural knowledge of their second language is always in progress and never complete. In this respect, James Dickins (2005) points out...

A wide variety of volunteers have registered as translators with Translations for Progress. Some are professional translators interested in contributing to a good cause, while others are language students with little to no experience in translation. Different volunteers have different capabilities, and we hope that this site will eventually offer plentiful volunteer opportunities ranging from basic translation to more advanced, challenging texts. For those of you with a bit less experience, we have put together a list of pointers to serve as a guide on how to provide the best possible translations for the organization you’re volunteering for.
1. Always translate into your native language unless you are near native or bilingual in the second language. Even then, bear in mind that most professionals translate only into their native language.
2. If you do decide to translate into a non-native language, we strongly suggest finding a native speaker to check your work over before you submit it.
3. If you are unsure of the meaning of a word or phrase, always either check the meaning in a dictionary, with a native speaker, or with the organization that requested the translation.
4. Please don’t attempt to translate texts of a technical nature unless you are familiar with the material or willing to put in the (sometimes considerable) time necessary to research the topic.
Many people believe that translation is an easy thing and all you have to do is to change words from the source text into the equivalent words of a target text. However, this is not true since some phrases, if translated literaly, would make no sense. Translation is a very complicated process which has to consider many factors - the genre and the style of the original text, the translator's competence, the timeline allocated to the project and many more. There is a great number of useful translation tips available online and offline, yet every translator has their own reliable methods and techniques, built on expertise and time. Here, we summarized the most essential translation tips that can come in handy both for the oral translation and the written translation.

The following examples show what can happen when a translation is made from a dictionary without taking into account the cultural elements of the other language.
1. When American Airlines wanted to advertise its new leather first-class seats in the Mexican market, it translated its "Fly in Leather" campaign literally, which meant "Fly Naked" (vuela en cuero) in Spanish.
2. When Parker Pen marketed a ball-point pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to have read, "It won't leak in your pocket and embarrass you." The company thought that the word "embarazar" (to impregnate) meant to embarrass, so the ad read, "It won't leak in your pocket and make you pregnant."
امروزه هر فردي كه اندكي زبان انگليسي ميآموزد به ترجمهي نوشتههايي از اين زبان ميپردازد و خود را مترجم خوبي ميداند. اما ترجمهي خوب چه ترجمهاي است؟
الف) ترجمهاي است كه در برابر هر واژه بيگانه، برابر فارسي آن را گذاشته باشد.
ب) ترجمهاي است كه منظور نويسندهي زبان بيگانه را با واژگاني كه مترجم مناسب ميداند بيان كند.
ج) ترجمهاي است كه برابرهاي مناسب واژههاي بيگانه را در ساختار دستوري زبان فارسي بيان كند.
